On December 21, 1979

The Indiana football team registered its first bowl victory in program history, defeating No. 9 Brigham Young 38-37 in the 1979 Holiday Bowl in San Diego, Calif. Tim Wilbur delivered the crucial score, returning a punt 62 yards for a touchdown with 6:53 to go, and the extra point gave IU a one-point lead that it never relinquished, as BYU kicker Brent Johnson missed a 27-yard field goal attempt in the final seconds.
